A survey conducted by Kantar Emor in January shows that. 71% of respondents support or tend to support the continuation of preparations for the construction of a new generation nuclear power plant.<\/strong> Compared to the previous survey in April 2025, support for nuclear deployment has increased and is now at its highest level since 2019. At the same time, the share of those opposed to nuclear power has continued its downward trend. According to the latest survey, 17% of respondents oppose nuclear power development, with almost equal numbers of 'firm' (8%) and 'somewhat' (9%) opponents. 12% of respondents could not take a clear position.<\/p>\n

\nNuclear energy continues to be the most favoured option for electricity generation in Estonia. In response to the question \"Which type of electricity generation are you in favour of developing in Estonia, given the reduction in the production of electricity from oil shale?\" replied 5<\/strong>5% of respondents say they think a new generation of small nuclear power plants deserves to be developed in Estonia.<\/strong> in view of the decline in oil shale production.<\/strong> At the same time, the popularity of both wind and solar energy has fallen significantly compared to last year. Wind energy is favoured by 27% respondents and solar by 24%, which is significantly lower than a year ago. By contrast, support for electricity generation from oil shale alongside oil production has increased, with 30% of respondents considering it worth developing.<\/p>\n

As an important additional observation, the survey shows that Estonian people also attach importance to the role of the state in the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant. As far as 78% of respondents consider that the state should have a significant stake in the company that builds and operates the plant.<\/strong> This leads to the expectation that for energy production of strategic importance, the state is seen as playing a central role in ensuring both energy security and long-term responsibility.<\/p>\n
