{"id":16650,"date":"2026-11-06T12:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T10:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fermi.ee\/?p=16650"},"modified":"2026-11-06T12:10:28","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T10:10:28","slug":"16650-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fermi.ee\/en\/16650-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Nuclear power plant planning will continue with locations in Viru-Nigula"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, which is coordinating the national special plan for a nuclear power plant, has updated the starting positions for the plan and refined the impact assessment and site selection methodology. Consequently, instead of the previous six locations, three potential areas in Viru-Nigula Parish will be considered in the future: Madaala, Malla and Letipea.<\/p>\n<p>According to planning project manager Agnes Lihts, planning typically moves from broader to narrower. Input from authorities so far has helped to refine the suitability and constraints of the areas and has given a clearer direction for future work.<\/p>\n<p>The planning area still encompasses eight municipalities, because in addition to the station, electrical connections, cooling water pipelines, access roads and other infrastructure must be planned. These route corridors may also pass through the territories of other municipalities. The substation locations considered thus far have not changed.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the preliminary infrastructure solutions will be outlined. According to the current schedule, the proposed route corridors will be presented in early 2027. The updated source documents and submitted proposals can be viewed at the Ministry of Climate's nuclear power plant <a href=\"https:\/\/riigiplaneering.ee\/tuumajaam\">on the planning website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is planned to find the most suitable location for the nuclear power plant and its infrastructure by the end of 2027. Thereafter, a detailed solution will be drawn up and additional impact assessments will be carried out.
