The Viru-Nigula Municipal Council authorised the Municipal Government to draw up the terms and conditions of a pre-negotiated tender for the Madala property.
The council's decision will help to ensure legal and ownership certainty at a later stage of the planning process, should the Madala property next to Kunda harbour, which belongs to the municipality of Viru-Nigula, prove to be the most suitable location for the nuclear power plant after considering the candidates for the location in the course of the special national planning process. The council decided to authorise the municipality to organise a pre-negotiated tender and to formulate the terms and conditions. This would give Fermi Energia the opportunity to acquire the Madala site for the construction of a nuclear power plant on mutually agreeable terms, if a comparison of the candidates for the site in the national specific plan shows that this site is the most suitable for the construction of the plant. In the event that the Madala site is not selected, the incentive for acquiring the land would cease to exist and the municipality would not be subject to any further restrictions on the use of the land. For the time being, however, we await the conditions of the municipality, to which we will then be able to respond.
In the framework of the special national plan launched at the beginning of this year, suitable candidate sites for the construction of a nuclear power plant are being considered in both Viru-Nigula and Lüganuse municipalities, and the most suitable site should be identified by 2027.
