Fermi Energia, a company planning to build a nuclear power plant in Estonia, is awarding two scholarships to support Estonian students studying abroad in the field of nuclear energy. The scholarships will support studies abroad for two academic years at postgraduate level.
According to Henri Ormus, Member of the Board of Fermi Energia, Fermi Energia contributes to the education of young people in many ways, as nuclear energy is a knowledge-intensive field and requires good education.
"The Fermi Energy Fellowship is important as it gives young people in Estonia the opportunity to study at the world's leading universities, gaining in-depth knowledge and skills that are essential for the development of future nuclear projects in Estonia and around the world," Ormus explained.
The Fermi Energy scholarship programme has so far given seven Estonian students the opportunity to study abroad.
Rainer Kelk studied in Switzerland and is currently pursuing a PhD at the Paul Scherrer Institute. His doctoral thesis focuses on the application of machine learning to the analysis of severe nuclear accidents.
Mihkel Aavik studied in the Spain-France Combined Nuclear Training Programme and works in France for Edvance, part of the French nuclear group EDF. There, he is involved in the design of the electrical systems of the EPR1200 reactor.
Elise Poom studied in Sweden and currently works for Westinghouse, a company that develops nuclear reactors and produces nuclear fuel in Sweden.
Ayrton Hüüs studied in Sweden and now works at the Ministry of Climate Action.
Hendrik Vija is currently completing his studies in Sweden and plans to join Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel, a company that supplies nuclear fuel.
Carmen Tamm and Sanna Kruusmaa is completing her first year of a Master's degree in Sweden.
All the young people plan to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and experience abroad, and later join an Estonian nuclear project when the time is right.
The scholarship will be awarded for two academic years (2×10 months), €1000 per month. The recipient of the scholarship must be employed at Fermi Energy for 3 years after the end of the studies.
To apply, you must fill in an application form, attach a letter of motivation and a letter of recommendation.
