The tender for the nuclear power plant planning consultant was won by Estonian companies

The state-level special planning tender for the nuclear power plant was won by joint bidders Skepast&Puhkim Ltd and Steiger Engineering Bureauwho, together with the ministry, are preparing the most suitable location plan for the station.

The Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure, Erkki Keldo, stated that it is positive that Estonian companies won the international tender, as they possess the knowledge and readiness to contribute to the country's energy security.

The procurement work includes advising the ministry on the preparation of the site pre-selection baseline, impact assessment, and the preparation of the first stage of the spatial plan.

The purpose of the national special plan is to design a nuclear power plant with a capacity of up to 600 MW, including the necessary infrastructure, such as a substation, electricity connections, access roads, and cooling systems.

The government initiated the planning and strategic environmental impact assessment at Fermi Energia's request in May 2025. Once the potential plant is completed, electricity generation could begin in 2035 at the earliest.
