On Monday, 15 January, Fermi Energia AS and the Swedish trainer for all nuclear plant operators and maintenance personnel, Kärnkraftsäkerhet och Utbildning AB (KSU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct training courses related to the Estonian small reactor programme.
"Fermi Energia has been working with KSU for three years. They have provided valuable seminars and training in nuclear energy and have introduced nuclear energy through practical visits to Swedish nuclear plants. KSU is a partner of GE Hitachi in the development of the BWRX-300 reactor training programme, so we see KSU as a long-term partner in the creation, development and training of the training programme for the operators and other staff at the Estonian plant," said Henri Ormus, Member of the Board of Fermi Energia.
KSU intends to support Fermi Energy both in the delivery of training courses and in the use of simulation technologies and other training tools in preparation for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Estonia. KSU will be a long-term training partner for Fermi Energy to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the plant through professional training of future plant staff.
The MoU sets out mutual interests in the development of competences in the nuclear sector, with a focus on the development of training and qualification schemes, programmes, personnel qualification systems, skills testing and the implementation of training programmes.
Fermi Energia is a nuclear energy company founded in 2019 by Estonian nuclear energy experts and entrepreneurs that plans to build a small reactor power plant in Estonia to support the country's climate targets and security of supply.
KSU is a trainer of operators and maintenance personnel for all Swedish nuclear power plants, part of the Swedish national energy group Vattenfall.
