Fermi Energia becomes a member of the European Small Reactor Industry Alliance

The Small Modular Reactor Industry Alliance, set up in February 2024 under the European Commission (European Industrial Alliance on SMRs) aims to facilitate and accelerate the development, demonstration and deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s.

The industry alliance will work in sectoral working groups to improve the enabling conditions for the development, demonstration and deployment of small modular reactors, including the re-establishment of nuclear supply chains.

Large modular reactors incorporate innovative safety features that pave the way for the integration of nuclear technologies into new industrial applications and make them more attractive to potential investors. They have an important role to play in integrated energy systems, providing electricity and heat with a relatively small footprint and low CO2 emissions. Small modular reactors can help to reduce CO2 emissions in sectors where emissions are difficult to reduce, such as transport, chemicals, steel and district heating.
