Fermi Energia formalises cash acquisition and approves new Board of Directors

Fermi Energia has decided to raise EUR 1.68 million of the investments subscribed in Funderbeam from 1,281 investors and an additional EUR 0.5 million from other professional investors - AS Amalfi (Heldur Meerits), Moneytrain Holding OÜ (Martin Henk), ESTIKO (Neinar Seli), Shuhari OÜ (Alvar Lumberg), Pravi Investeeringud OÜ.

The company will also convert its previous investments in Ketris OÜ (Karmo Pärnoja), Net Systems Group OÜ (Tõnis Kaasik), Frip OÜ (Jaan Luts), Pärdiklill OÜ (Kalev Järvelill) and the US investment fund Last Energy Inc. into shares. Fermi Energia will also become a minority shareholder in Tractebel Engineering SA, an international engineering company established in Belgium and belonging to the Engie group.

"We wanted to give Estonian people the opportunity to participate in the creation of their own nuclear power plant through FunderBeam's crowdfunding platform, and this offer was gladly accepted by more than a thousand investors. This trust also implies a serious responsibility in the implementation of the project, which also directly implies that institutional investors with diverse experience in the energy sector, and in particular in nuclear energy, are necessary for the success of Fermi Energia. One such company is Tractebel Engineering, whose dedication to the study of small modular reactors has helped Fermi Energia to achieve its current worldwide reputation in the field of small reactor development," explained Kalev Kallemets, Chairman of the Board of Fermi Energia.

Fermi Energia shareholders also approved the composition of the company's Supervisory Board with Sandor Liive (Chairman), Mait Müntel and Liisa Oviir as a new member.

"The strong investor interest confirms the need to make bold forward-looking decisions in the prevailing uncertainty, and it is clear that in addition to solar and wind energy, we will also need weather-independent, carbon-free nuclear energy in the future," Sandor Liive said.

Sandor Liive graduated from the Faculty of Economics at TUT. From 1998 to 2005, Liive worked as the Finance Director of the Port of Tallinn, then as the Finance Director of Eesti Energia, and from 2005 to 2014 as the Chairman of the Board. Sandor Liive has been co-founder of GridIO, Tuleva, Callisto Group and Fermi Energia. From 2021, Liive will be Chairman of the Supervisory Board of RB Rail AS.

Mait Müntel is co-founder of Fermi Energia and founder and CEO of Lingvist Technologies OÜ. He graduated from the University of Tartu in 2000 with a degree in theoretical physics, received his Master's degree in 2002 and his PhD in 2008. In 2009, he received the President's Young Scientist Award.
Liisa Oviir is a lawyer and social activist. Oviir graduated from the University of Tartu in 2000 with a law degree. From 1998 to 2008 she was a lawyer at AS Tallink Group. From 2008 to 2015, she worked as a senior lawyer at Eesti Energia and was Minister of Entrepreneurship from 2015 to 2016.
