On 7 December, Steiger started preliminary geological investigations in the village of Letipea, Viru-Nigula municipality, on behalf of Fermi Energia. The aim of the geological investigations is to determine whether the site is structurally suitable for the construction of a reactor building and, if so, to provide input for the design of the reactor building in such a way that it can be safely constructed if the site is suitable. This is a very preliminary study to provide input as to whether it is even practical to consider this site as one of the possible locations to be proposed in a future specific planning process. OÜ Inseneribüroo Steiger also organised an information day for those interested, alongside the drilling machine, to get a more detailed insight into the work.
The total cost of the study "Structural geological studies and preliminary design of the foundation of the small reactor in Letipea conditions" (project number RE.5.04.22-0086) is 274 000 EUR and it is co-financed by the EAS RUP Round III for 181 635,88 EUR.
