In tackling the energy challenge, we need to maximise energy savings and environmental benefits, secure a diversity of energy carriers and producers and diversify energy production, cogeneration of electricity and heat, secure energy independence for the country, create a level playing field for electricity producers, security of supply and stable affordable prices for consumers. All this can only be ensured by Estonia building its own nuclear power plant.

- Anto Raukas, 2008

The aim of the scholarship

The Anto Raukas Scholarship has been established to popularise the specialties of energy and physics, to support the development of young people in West and East-Viru County and to contribute to the future of energy and nuclear energy in Estonia. The scholarship is initiated by Fermi Energia.

Anto Raukas was one of the co-founders of the NGO Estonian Nuclear Power Plant and was firmly convinced that Estonia would build its own nuclear power plant. Anto Raukas tirelessly explained to Estonian society the need for diversification of electricity production with nuclear energy, the environmental benefits of a nuclear power plant and safety measures.
